Legendary Golf
Golf has always been at the heart of Highland Golf and Country Club. From its earliest days at Riverside Park to the opening of its present course in 1922, Highland built a reputation as one of Indianapolis’s premier places to play. Designed by renowned Scottish golf architect Willie Park Jr., the course was praised for its beauty, thoughtful design, and challenging play, establishing a tradition that has endured for generations.
Highland has also played an important role in competitive golf. Over the years, the club has hosted major tournaments and exhibitions featuring many of the game’s greatest players, including Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Babe Zaharias, and others. Its course has challenged champions while also serving as the setting for club championships, member events, junior golf, women’s golf, and countless friendly rounds among Highland families and friends.
Beyond competition, golf at Highland has always been about camaraderie. Generations of members have gathered on the course to enjoy time with friends and family, creating traditions and memories that extend far beyond the scorecard. From longstanding tournaments to casual weekend rounds, the game has remained an important part of the friendships and sense of community that define the club.
Today, golf at Highland remains both competitive and social. Members enjoy a course steeped in history, supported by strong golf programming, professional instruction, and the year-round opportunities offered through the Highland Golf Academy. Whether playing in a tournament, practicing, or simply enjoying a round with friends, golf continues to be one of the traditions that defines the Highland experience.
